England x Reader: Waiting

"Hey Arthur, how are you? It's been awhile. I miss you, ya know that!" You chuckled, tears swelling in you (e/c) eyes. "Oh I went to the café were we had that bet were you had to try to get the waitress' number…." You said remembering the time when Arthur was a tad bit tipsy and tried to get the waitress at a cafés number…..

~~flash back~~

"heeey~ ______, bet you I can get that waitress' numbeerrr~~~" Arthur slurred.
"Oh please Arthur you could never get her number! She's totally out of your league!!!" You laughed.
"Then what league are you in~~~" He smirked across the table to you. You blushed a bit but did your best to hide it.
"Okay I'll do a deal with you." You stopped and looked over at the waitress at the counter. "If you can't get her number you have to buy me anything I want and also you can't cook for me, EVER!" You said holding your hand out. "Deaaal" Arthur smiled and shook your hand. He got up from the chair and wobbled his way over to the waitress.
"Hi. I would like to award you the tea award for looking so good. Now if you will give me your name, number and other vital (REGIONS) statistics, I would like to enter you in our grand prize drawing for an all-expenses paid date with me." He smirked using the only pick up line he had, which he learned from his brother Alfred.
"I-I'm married…." She said holding up her hand showing her wedding ring and an angry chef behind her.
"________!!!!!!!!!" He yelled and ran back to you. You were laughing your ass off at him.
"I-I'm sorry I didn't know~~" you giggled.
"______ you git! I just embarrassed myself in front of the whole bloody café!!!" He snapped….

~~End flashback~~
"I'm sorry I should've told you she was married….but I thought it would be funny~" You laughed a tear or two escaping your eyes. The tear rolled off your cheek and onto to the ground. You took a seat on a bench nearby. "You what I miss most about you, I miss your eyebrows….and the way you smiled or the way you'd get pissed off quickly and when you always told me you thought I looked beautiful even if I didn't…" You laughed looking into the distance. Tears swelled in your eyes, you couldn't hold them back anymore. "And the day you told me you loved me…that was the happiness day of my life….…but yet the saddest." Tears came streaming down your face. You buried your head in your hands as memories came flooding back. One in particular stuck out from the rest….

~~~Flashback~~~

"I love you _____!" Arthur yelled as he bored the plane to America on a business trip. He was going for 3 months and he decided to tell you that now! "I love you too Artie~~~" You replied back waving your hands in the air. "I'll miss you…" You muttered under breath as he went from your sight. You turned around and began to walk to the exit. 'Dammit, why did he have to tell me that now!!? Why not sooner…' You thought to yourself, you had always loved him but never wanted to tell him in case he didn't love you back.
"_______!!!" A familiar accent shouted. "Sorry excuse me…" You turned around to see Arthur making his way through the crowd of holidaymakers.
"A-Arthur…." You gasped, "Arthur w-what are you doing!!? You'll be late!!" You yelled at him.
"_-_____! I can't go….not before I do this…please forgive me…" He said, pulling you into his embrace. "I really and truly love you…p-p-please wait for me," He whispered into your ear. "I promise I'll make it up to you when I get back…just promise me you'll wait for me…" You nodded and gripped his shirt tightly.
"A-Arthur, I promise…I'll wait for you, no matter what…I will love you always!" You sobbed into his chest. He smiled and lifted up your chin up and stared deeply into your (e/c) eyes. He wiped away a stray tear from your cheek and kissed you softly. It took you a few moments to understand what was happening but soon began to kiss back.
"I'll be back soon," He said breaking away. "Please wait for me!" He released you from his grip. You held both his hands tightly not wanting him to leave but he soon let go. "I promise…" You said holding back tears. He turned away and boarded the plane.
"I'll wait forever…." You whispered to yourself.

Days, weeks, months past and you hadn't heard from Arthur. "Arthur I'm worried are you alright?" You said down the phone but only talking to a voice machine. You hung up and slowly made your way into your bed, "I'll still wait..." You whispered looking up at the ceiling. You closed your eyes and fell asleep.
Riiing~ Riing~ you jerked up as your annoying ringtone buzzed through your ears. As it kept ringing you immediately thought of Arthur. You scurried over to the phone and answered. "Arthur!" You said through the phone.
"N-No….it's me, Alfred….______ I-I have to tell you something….." Alfred, Arthur's brother replied down the phone, he didn't sound his usual cheery self, you knew right away he had something bad to tell you.
"A-Alfred….w-what is it?" You asked you felt a strange feeling in your stomach a feeling you could not describe.
"A-A-Arthur…..A-Arthur…is gone…." His voice quivered.
"W-What do you mean, gone? He is on a business trip!" You said worried.
"N-No he's gone….forever….he is d-dead" He whispered down the phone.
"T-That impossible….he said he'd be back and he promised!!!" You roared, tears filling your eyes. "___-" "I promised I'd wait for him….your lying!!!" You cried denying the truth.
"_____, this is just as hard as it is for you as it is for me!" You couldn't take it and hung up.
"This is all an awful dream…I'll go to sleep and this will be all over…." You said as tears rolled down your cheeks. That night your cried yourself to sleep.

The next morning Alfred told you that there was a terrible train accident that Arthur was on; few survived….Arthur not being one of them. You found it hard to accept it and often denied it but Alfred helped you through it and you soon were back on your feet, you were healed physically but emotionally you were still bruised your heart was broken in two. You would often cry yourself to sleep or call Arthur's phone just to hear his voice…his soothing voice….which you missed so much….

~~End flashback~~
"Arthur! I'm still waiting!! Why did you go? Why did you leave me??" You said softly kneeling beside his tombstone. "A-Arthur….I'll always be waiting…f-forever…." You whimpered, your eyes burned and your tear-stained cheeks were hard and rough.  You missed everything about him; the only thing you wanted was to be in his arms, feel his warm embrace, be able to say you loved him one more time…There was so many things you wanted to do with him,  you wanted to be able to walk hand-in-hand with him and be able to say that he was yours, be together forever….but that was impossible…without him you were nothing, nothing…you acted strong around your friends but inside you were shattered nothing mattered anymore, so many people told you to move on but you couldn't…you made a promise, you never wanted to break it, an unbreakable promise a promise that should never be broken. "A-Arthur, one day we'll be together…I promise, we'll be together forever…." You wiped tears from your face and got up. You placed a bouquet of roses on his grave. You felt a hand on your shoulder and jerked around to find Alfred smiling warmly at you. "Come on _____, I'll take you home…let Arthur sleep." He said. "He deserves it…" you nodded. "Goodbye Arthur, sleep well and we'll be together someday…" You said your goodbyes and walked away. You will never forget Arthur, you'll keep waiting for him and someday the two of you will be together, maybe not in this world but in another. "I'll be waiting….." you heard a gentle whisper in the wind as blew past your ear, it somewhat made you feel better…..
